A guest post from Mike, my oldest brother:
Oldest Merritt family — that being Mike and Cherie — met all family members at Lake Shetek State Park the last week of July. The park itself is very nice, albeit very dry, but open-pit fires were still allowed.
Cherie, myself, Talia, her husband Eric and baby Merritt Joy parked our campers in the ‘new’ full hook up area. We were fortunate to have reserved the side which offered quite a bit of shade in the afternoon as it was very warm during our stay.
Electric and no-service campsites are situated among old large trees with easy access to bath houses. Other family members rented camper cabins, which were nice.
Lake Shetek State Park offers awesome trials and much wildlife. The lake at its deepest point is 12 feet and littered with rocks along most of the shoreline. There’s a very nice swimming area and boat launch.
All in all a very pleasant stay, providing a lot of entertainment for grandkids.
I would highly recommend a stay.
